Finsus to Acquire Anticipa, Targeting New SME Financing Solutions
Acquisition aims to expand credit access for Mexico’s small businesses through digital-first products
Finsus announced it is acquiring Mexico-based fintech Anticipa, in a move the company says will help it become the country’s first neobank. The terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
Anticipa operates as a merchant cash advance platform, offering debt capital to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). According to Finsus, Anticipa’s digital product fits its strategy to provide digital-first financial solutions that can help SMEs grow.
New Financing Product for SMEs
The acquisition is expected to enable Finsus to launch a financing product offering SMEs up to $150,000 MXN, secured against their card sales. This would add to the company’s portfolio of services regulated by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV).
Finsus highlights that card payments in Mexico reached $103 billion in 2023 and continue to grow at double-digit rates annually. The company’s strategy focuses on reaching Mexico’s unbanked population, with an emphasis on providing loans to SMEs.
Part of a Broader Growth Strategy
The deal follows Finsus’ acquisition of Pulpi in 2024, a company that offers payroll advances and employee credit. This latest move builds on the firm’s aim to expand financial services coverage in sectors where credit access remains limited.
CEO Carlos Marmolejo stated that while Mexico’s retail sector is undergoing a digital transformation, financial services have not kept pace. He added that millions of businesses make daily sales but lack the means to prove this to banks for financing, and the acquisition will address this gap.
Anticipa’s Track Record
Anticipa CEO Juan Fernández Casas reported that the company has provided 1.3 billion pesos in advances since its founding. He said joining Finsus aligns with Anticipa’s mission to tackle the challenges facing Mexico’s SMEs and to help drive their growth.
